Coalition Statement of Concern about Anti-Terrorism Measures

A broad coalition of more than 60 civil liberties, civil rights, and immigrant rights organizations issued a Statement of Principles saying that they "have become very concerned about a strategy of 'prevention' of terrorism that instead of targeting terrorists casts suspicion on entire religious and ethnic communities." The groups signed a Statement of Principles that calls on the federal government to respect constitutional principles in its efforts to prevent future terrorist attacks in the United States.

There is a long and sorry history of targeting immigrant and dissident communities in times of fear. We risk constitutional liberties and our security by wasting important investigative resources by targeting the most vulnerable among us, instead of focusing on actual threats to our security.
